Over Oceans
Over Oceans is the debut rug collection from Zoë Pawlak. What began as an abstract painting depicting two divided masses coming together has been recontextualized into a critically acclaimed collection of functional, everyday pieces. Textural, colourful and soulful, each symbolizes the possibility of crossing a seemingly impossible expanse of water, while bringing a softness and warmth to the home.
From the original painting, each of the collection’s five rugs provide a unique micro or macro view of the expansiveness of water. Together, these designs fuse cohesively as a collection, telling the story of the ocean through Pawlak’s perspective: the ocean is a body that shifts, carries us through, and holds and projects light.
Produced in collaboration with the Vancouver-based company, Burritt Bros., each rug is 100 knots per square inch, made with Himalayan wool and Chinese silk, and hand-knotted in Nepal. Lead-time is approximately four to five months; custom sizes and samples available on request.
