Red Dust
The stark backgrounds of the Red Dust rug collection provide a striking sparseness on which Zoë Pawlak’s figurative drawings reveal themselves.
Though Pawlak is known for her abstract landscapes, her two-decade study of the human form continues to inform her practice; here in the three-rug Red Dust series, the swooping, figurative lines offer a glimpse of humanity. The push and pull of figurative gestures move in and out of the frame, questioning the alchemy and chemistry of our human encounters.
Red Dust is Pawlak’s second rug collection produced in collaboration with the Vancouver-based company, Burritt Bros. Each of the three Red Dust rugs is 100 knots per square inch, made with Himalayan wool and Chinese silk, and hand-knotted in Nepal. Lead-time is approximately four to five months; custom sizes and samples available on request.
